Jay Monty is the Director of Transportation and Mobility for the City of Everett having held the position since 2015. Jay is responsible for developing and carrying out the City’s transportation vision that includes an efficient multi-modal transportation system and reduction in automobile dependence for City residents. In addition to designing and developing the infrastructure elements of this vision, such as dedicated bus lanes and bicycle facilities, Jay’s work has also focused on transportation policy changes for new development. In 2021, the city passed its first Transportation Demand Management ordinance which eliminated parking requirements for all new developments in the City while also requiring transit supportive mitigation measures that would increase access to transit for new residents. This included supporting the formation of the Lower Mystic Transportation Management Association, growing the City’s bike share network and developing a fare-free shuttle service to fill gaps in the MBTA transit network. Jay has a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech and M.A. in Urban Planning from Tufts University.
