MCAC Data Tool

Explore daily-updated Massport data on Logan flights, runway use, weather, noise monitor readings and community complaints. Start on the homepage, choose a section, and use the filters, maps and charts to see how runways, weather and aircraft relate to flight operations and noise in your community. This is a beta version and we’re still improving it; please use the Feedback button on the homepage to tell us what works, what doesn’t, and what you’d like to see.

How to use this dashboard

Please be patient when it first opens. The dashboard can take up to a minute to load the first time, and the first page or two may be slow. After that it speeds up.

  1. Start on the homepage. You’ll see six large boxes, one for each topic, such as Flight Operations, Noise & Complaints, Weather and Maps. Click a box to open that topic.
  2. Pick a dashboard. Each topic page lists its dashboards as tiles. Click a tile to open one.
  3. Make it bigger.
    • Full screen: click the full-screen button (a square with arrows pointing to its corners) in the bottom-right corner of the dashboard to fill your screen. Press Esc on your keyboard to exit.
    • Zoom: if the text is hard to read, zoom your web browser in or out with Ctrl and + or − (Cmd on a Mac). Press Ctrl and 0 to return to normal size.
  4. Choose your dates. At the top of every dashboard you can pick a start and end date, a period such as “Last 12 months”, or a year and month. Everything on the page updates to match. It starts out showing all dates.
  5. Use the Filters box. Click the gold Filters box in the top-left corner to open more choices, such as runway, airline or noise monitor. Click an option to select it. Hold the Ctrl key (Cmd on a Mac) to pick more than one. Click anywhere outside the box to close it.
  6. Click on the charts. Clicking a bar, a slice or a map bubble filters the rest of the page to match. Click it again to undo.
  7. Hover for details. Rest your mouse on any bar, point or map bubble to see the exact numbers.
  8. Look closer at one chart (focus mode). Move your mouse over a chart and small icons appear in its top-right corner. Click the focus mode icon (a square with an arrow) to open that chart on its own, full size. Click Back to report at the top left to return.
  9. Drill down and up on time charts. Many charts that show time let you move between years, months, days and hours.
    • Move your mouse over the chart and click the down arrow icon at the top to turn on drill mode. Then click a year to see its months, a month to see its days, and so on.
    • Click the up arrow icon to go back up one level.
    • The double down arrow shows the next level for every period at once, for example all months of every year.
  10. Use the maps. Scroll your mouse wheel over a map to zoom in and out, and click and drag to move around. Click a bubble to filter the page to that place.
  11. See the details behind a number. On some charts you can right-click a bar or point and choose Drill through to open a page with the individual flights or noise readings behind that number. Use the back arrow on that page to return.
  12. Start over. Click the dashboard’s title in the top-left corner to clear all your selections.
  13. Go back. Click ← Back in the top-right corner to return to the topic page, then ← Back to Homepage to return to the start.

Tip: If something looks empty, check your dates and filters, or click the title to reset the page.
