Hugo Rizzuto is an aviator, educator, and founder who discovered flight at a young
age and dedicated his career to turning that passion into opportunity for others. As a
teacher in Boston Public Schools, Mr. Rizzuto launched the city’s first Aviation and
Aerospace Technology Program at East Boston’s Mario Umana Harbor School of
Science and Technology. It opened professional pathways in aviation for many
students, including underrepresented ones. He later founded United Business Jet,
serving as its President and CEO for more than four decades.
Mr. Rizzuto’s experience spans from the cockpit to the regulatory table. He served as
Chief Pilot, Director of Operations, and Director of Training under FAR Part 135, and
contributed to FAA and NBAA working groups that developed operational standards
now codified in federal aviation regulations. Hugo personally flew and coordinated
thousands of domestic and international operations out of Boston Logan Airport,
Hanscom Field, and Worcester Regional Airport. He maintained long-standing
relationships with the FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO), Massport, air
traffic controllers, and Boston TRACON, spanning flight operations, safety,
compliance, and noise mitigation.
Hugo grew up in East Boston’s Jeffries Point and is a 52-year resident of Revere,
living in the Point of Pines neighborhood directly beneath Logan’s runway 4R
departure path. This provides personal experience of the impact that aircraft noise and
air pollution creates for surrounding communities. Now retired, he remains active in
civic life. He has served as finance director at the Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church and School in Revere, and is a member of the Point of Pines Beach
Association. Hugo has raised funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the
Pan-Mass Challenge, and has participated in the Tom Brady Best Buddies Challenge.
He cherishes his four grandchildren, Charlie, Isabelle, Hayden, and Sophia.
