Massport Community Advisory Committee Welcomes First Executive Director

BOSTON, MA, November 1 – The Massport Community Advisory Committee (MCAC) welcomed Matthew Romero as its first Executive Director at its annual meeting on October 18, 2018 at Boston City Hall.

“We’re thrilled to have Matt on board as our first Executive Director,” commented MCAC Chairman David Carlon. “The Massport CAC has been pursuing many priorities since its creation in 2014. Matt’s experience and energy will be a great asset to the committee as we work to move forward with a number of initiatives that are of concern to member communities.”

Romero has represented the interests of Massachusetts communities for fifteen years. He joins the MCAC from the MWRA Advisory Board, where he served in several functions over the past twelve years, including as a financial analyst and, most recently, as director of communications.

“I was very excited by the challenge the MCAC position offered,” said Romero. “Having experienced firsthand the benefits an advisory group can offer to a large quasi-independent agency, I am passionate about the community advisory committee model. Via this model, the MCAC can benefit not only its member communities, but Massport as well.”

Established by the Legislature in 2014, the mission of the Massachusetts Port Authority Community Advisory Committee is to be the voice of communities impacted by Massport operations; it collaboratively offers local, regional, and national solutions through advocacy, information and Authority oversight. The legislature charges the MCAC to review Massport’s budgets, annual report, as well as its various programs, and further to make recommendations to the Governor and Legislature as voted by the MCAC.

In his new role, Romero will be building an administrative structure to support the MCAC’s mission, virtually from the ground up. Romero notes, “It’s like a government startup, which is one reason this challenge is so exciting. I’m looking forward to working collaboratively with Massport and our represented communities to continue the important work the MCAC has begun.”
